Subject: The Brady Bunch And Pistolgriphobia

This is the kind of bullshit that just makes my blood boil! Why must we be afflicted with these inane morons?

DC City Council afflicted by pistolgriphobia
March 15

Some Americans are unfortunately afflicted by hoplophobia, the unnatural fear of guns, which causes them to lose all common sense in public policy discussion about the right to bear arms. This fear may or may not be treatable by gun range therapy and other measures.

But a new phobia that has arisen over the last few years that afflicts some elected officials: pistolgriphobia, the unnatural fear of pistol grips on otherwise ordinary long guns. In a few states, state legislatures have gone as far to say that a rifle or shotgun with a pistol grip is an "assault weapon," requiring special registration, or perhaps banned from private ownership.

The term "assault weapon" is a pejorative term for otherwise ordinary rifles and shotguns apparently pushed by Brady Campaign spinmaster Josh Sugarmann in his March 1989 report "Assault Weapon: Analysis, New Research and Legislation.
" Sugarman's report recommended exploiting:

". . .
the public's confusion over fully-automatic
machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons
-- anything that looks like a machine gun
is assumed to be a machine gun.

The result of that disinformation campaign was the now expired 1994 federal assault weapons importation and manufacture restrictions and some isolated but onerous anti-black rifle regulations enacted by a few state legislatures.

In December 2008, the DC City Council appears to have also become gripped with pistolgriphobia when it banned possession and registration of long guns with pistol grips, and even pistols with forward pistol grips. As a result, DC residents who have already registered such weapons, will become criminals in less than three years when the guns must be re-registered.

There is no rational basis for either pistolgriphobia or the DC City Council's ban on rifles containing pistol grips. Rifles with pistol grips may look scary to some people, but they are often less deadly than normal hunting rifles as the Washington Post's investigative reporter Tom Jackman discovered in reporting on the 2006 slaying of Fairfax County, VA police officer Vickey Armel by madman Michael Kennedy. It turned out to be Kennedy's run of the mine hunting rifle, and not his "AK-47-style assault rifle," which fired the rounds capable of penetrating officer Armel's vest.

Objectively speaking, DC's ban on guns with pistol grips is nothing more than gun bigotry. If you don't believe me, then watch this video of a California police weapons expert showing how a normal looking ordinary rifle can be transformed into a scary black rifle banned by the Dc City Council by the attachment of a few cosmetic gizmos, such as pistol grips [at time hack 5.54]. The video also includes testimony by a police expert [at time hack 9:33] dispelling the myth that 'black rifles" with pistol grips are easily converted into real machine guns.

The DC City Council's pistolgriphobia is just one more reason why, it's time for Congress to tell DC's rulers: If you wanna vote in America's House, no more gun registration!

Obama secretly ends program that let pilots carry guns
After the September 11 attacks, commercial airline pilots were allowed to carry guns if they completed a federal-safety program. No longer would unarmed pilots be defenseless as remorseless hijackers seized control of aircraft and rammed them into buildings.

Now President Obama is quietly ending the federal firearms program, risking public safety on airlines in the name of an anti-gun ideology.

The Obama administration this past week diverted some $2 million from the pilot training program to hire more supervisory staff, who will engage in field inspections of pilots.

This looks like completely unnecessary harassment of the pilots. The 12,000 Federal Flight Deck Officers, the pilots who have been approved to carry guns, are reported to have the best behavior of any federal law enforcement agency. There are no cases where any of them has improperly brandished or used a gun. There are just a few cases where officers have improperly used their IDs.

Fewer than one percent of the officers have any administrative actions brought against them and, we are told, virtually all of those cases “are trumped up.”

Take a case against one flight officer who had visited the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles within the last few weeks. While there, the pilot noticed that federal law enforcement officers can, with the approval of a superior, obtain a license plate that cannot be traced, a key safety feature for law enforcement personnel. So the pilot asked if, as a member of the federal program, he was eligible. The DMV staffer checked and said “no.” The next day administrative actions were brought against the pilot for “misrepresenting himself.” These are the kinds of cases that President Obama wants to investigate.

Since Mr. Obama's election, pilots have told us that the approval process for letting pilots carry guns on planes slowed significantly. Last week the problem went from bad to worse. Federal Flight Deck Officers - the pilots who have been approved to carry guns - indicate that the approval process has stalled out.

Pilots cannot openly speak about the changing policies for fear of retaliation from the Transportation Security Administration. Pilots who act in any way that causes a “loss of confidence” in the armed pilot program risk criminal prosecution as well as their removal from the program. Despite these threats, pilots in the Federal Flight Deck Officers program have raised real concerns in multiple interviews.

Arming pilots after Sept. 11 was nothing new. Until the early 1960s, American commercial passenger pilots on any flight carrying U.S. mail were required to carry handguns. Indeed, U.S. pilots were still allowed to carry guns until as recently as 1987. There are no records that any of these pilots (either military or commercial) ever causing any significant problems.

Screening of airplane passengers is hardly perfect. While armed marshals are helpful, the program covers less than 3 percent of the flights out of Washington D.C.'s three airports and even fewer across the country. Sky marshals are costly and quit more often than other law-enforcement officers.

Armed pilots are a cost-effective backup layer of security. Terrorists can only enter the cockpit through one narrow entrance, and armed pilots have some time to prepare themselves as hijackers penetrate the strengthened cockpit doors. With pilots, we have people who are willing to take on the burden of protecting the planes for free. About 70 percent of the pilots at major American carriers have military backgrounds.

Frankly, as a matter of pure politics, we cannot understand what the administration is thinking. Nearly 40 House Democrats are in districts were the NRA is more popular than House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. We can't find any independent poll in which the public is demanding that pilots disarm. Why does this move make sense?

Only anti-gun extremists and terrorist recruits are worried about armed pilots. So why is the Obama administration catering to this tiny lobby at the expense of public safety?

An Important Message From Gun Owners Of America
-- Land grab bill coming back, again

Do you agree with people like Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, who treat
the Second Amendment as if it were written only to protect your ability
to go hunting and target shooting?

Or do you agree with Gun Owners of America, George Washington and Thomas
Jefferson, who believe that the Second Amendment protects a pre-existing
fundamental right that is essential to the preservation of liberty?

Well, a whole lot of people in Congress are claiming to protect your
Second Amendment rights, but all they're really doing is protecting your
hunting season.

We're talking about the Omnibus Public Lands Act. You helped to defeat
this bill last week in the House, but Congressional leaders have vowed
to bring it up again soon.

S. 22 is an enormous package of over 190 bills lumped together with a
price tag of $10 billion. The bill will greatly expand the amount of
land controlled by the National Park Service, thus spreading the
agency's unconstitutional gun regulations to more areas.

Fear of upsetting gun owners -- who helped elect many members of
Congress from both parties -- kept this bill off the floor for several

Then, in a meeting last Tuesday, not held in an open committee hearing
but behind closed doors, House leaders brokered a deal with some
supposedly pro-gun Democrats.

They said they were concerned about your gun rights. They said they
were going to "fix" the bill.

But they did not address the NPS anti-gun regulations that prohibit
carrying a firearm for self defense without a government issued
concealed carry permit.

What did they do? They added language to the bill to say you can still
go hunting.

That's right. Many Congressmen claimed to be protecting the Second
Amendment, when all they were really doing was thumbing their noses at
self defense.

Here is the entire "pro-gun" amendment that was considered in the House.
Judge for yourself if this really protects your Second Amendment rights:

"Nothing in this Title shall be construed as affecting the authority,
jurisdiction, or responsibility of the several States to manage,
control, or regulate fish and resident wildlife under State law or
regulations, including the regulation of hunting, fishing, trapping, and
recreational shooting. Nothing in this Title shall be construed as
limiting access for hunting, fishing, trapping, or recreational

They may as well have called it the "Elmer Fudd Protection Act."

A lot of people who voted for this bill campaigned for office as
champions of gun rights. They said "Send me to Washington; I'll fight
for the Second Amendment." And this is what we get? Pathetic.

But let's be clear. The issue is not just about the NPS gun
restrictions, as bad as they are. And whether or not you personally use
federal land is not the point.

What is important is the disdain with which legislators hold your Second
Amendment rights.

It is imperative that you speak up on this issue. The outcome of this
battle will be a preview of what we can expect for the next two years.
Will your gun rights be comprised away little by little? Or will we
stand together and hold legislators accountable to their campaign
promises to uphold the Second Amendment?

This week there may be several votes in both the Senate and House on the
Omnibus Land bill.

Congressional leaders plan to act quickly in an attempt to ram this down
the throat of the American people without a fair and open process. They
desperately want to avoid any amendment that would truly protect your
gun rights.

Congress hopes to leave the gun ban in place, and enlarge the areas
affected by it. For example, the bill expands existing park land,
creates new national trails that will fall under the gun restrictions,
and authorizes the federal government to buy more land adjacent to
national parks and trails.

House and Senate leaders plan to move on this bill rapidly, although
they are ambiguous about the process.

But our message to Congress is simple: Stop playing around with our
Second Amendment rights!

We don't care about the process. We care about the Second Amendment.
And we mean ALL of the Second Amendment, not just hunting.

Tell Congress you expect them to protect your right to keep and bear
arms without compromising. Please take a few seconds and send the
pre-written message below.

When you're done, become a force multiplier. Send this alert to a few

It is important that you take this action because right now GOA is the
only gun rights organization speaking out for ALL of your Second
Amendment rights.

We've all forwarded jokes or funny pictures to our friends. How about
forwarding a message to help protect our God-ordained constitutionally
protected right to keep and bear arms?

And please do not think your voice won't be heard. Remember, this bill
failed to pass the House by just two votes last week because people like
you took action.

Congressmen need to know that their votes in the coming days will impact
YOUR vote next year. But if they don't hear from you and they think
you're not looking, many will treat your rights with contempt.

We're not alone in this battle. In the Senate, pro-gun champions such
as Sens. Tom Coburn and Jim DeMint are prepared to lead the fight
against this bill.

In the House, Reps. Paul Broun, Rob Bishop and Doc Hastings are among
those fighting hard for your gun rights.

In fact, there are many in Congress willing to stand up for the Second
Amendment, but they are repeatedly squashed by the anti-gun leadership
or undermined by pro-gun compromisers. Pro-gun Congressmen who want to
repeal the gun ban are being told, in effect, to "Shut up and vote!"

Friends, we know we've asked for a lot of action from you already this

Unfortunately, that is not going to stop. But we will all draw the line
at some point. Let's work together and do it now.

Thank you for working with Gun Owners of America. Our effectiveness in
Washington depends on your activism. PLEASE try to get your pro-gun
friends and family involved. Now more than ever, every voice is

ACTION: Please use the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center at to tell your Representative and
Senators to reject the lands bill (S. 22) unless your Second Amendment
rights are protected. Per usual, a pre-written letter is provided for
your convenience.

----- Pre-written message -----

The Omnibus Public Land Act of 2009 is expected to come to the floor

I urge you to oppose this bill if, as expected, the leadership does not
allow an amendment to repeal the anti-gun regulations of the National
Park Service.

Recent changes made by the Interior Department only allow persons with a
concealed carry permit to possess a self-defense firearm on NPS land.
Non-permit holders are still prohibited from carrying a firearm for
their protection.

And please don't be fooled by a supposedly pro-gun amendment to "fix"
the bill that was brought up last week during the House debate on S. 22.
That language only modestly protects hunting and recreational shooting.

While protecting the rights of sportsmen is important, the Second
Amendment is NOT about hunting rights. I am more concerned about my
ability to defend my life, and the lives of my loved ones, than I am
about plinking cans.

Congressional leaders have been ambiguous about how this legislation
will come to the floor, but my message to you is clear: protect ALL of
my Second Amendment rights.

Please OPPOSE final passage on any land bill that does not repeal the
NPS gun ban.

Obama's Gun Ban List Is Out
Alan Korwin - Author Gun Laws Of America
GunLaws. com

Here it is, folks, and it is bad news. The framework for legislation is always laid, and the Democrats have the votes to pass anything they want to impose upon us. They really do not believe you need anything more than a brick to defend your home and family. Look at the list and see how many you own. Remember, it is registration, then confiscation. It has happened in the UK, in Australia, in Europe, in China, and what they have found is that for some reason the criminals do not turn in their weapons, but will know that you did.

Remember, the first step in establishing a dictatorship is to disarm the citizens.

Gun-ban list proposed. Slipping below the radar (or under the short-term memory cap), the Democrats have already leaked a gun-ban list, even under the Bush administration when they knew full well it had no chance of passage (HR 1022, 110th Congress). It serves as a framework for the new list the Brady's plan to introduce shortly. I have an outline of the Brady's current plans and targets of opportunity. It's horrific. They're going after the courts, regulatory agencies, firearms dealers and statutes in an all out effort to restrict we the people. They've made little mention of criminals. Now more than ever, attention to the entire Bill of Rights is critical. Gun bans will impact our freedoms under search and seizure, due process, confiscated property, states' rights, free speech, right to assemble and more, in addition to the Second Amendment.
The Democrats current gun-ban-list proposal (final list will be worse):

Rifles (or copies or duplicates):
M1 Carbine,
Sturm Ruger Mini-14,
Bushmaster XM15,
Armalite M15,
Thompson 1927,
Thompson M1;
NHM 90,

TEC-22 Scorpion, or AB-10,

Shotguns (or copies or duplicates):
Armscor 30 BG,
SPAS 12 or LAW 12,
Striker 12,
Catch-all category (for anything missed or new designs):
A semiautomatic rifle that accepts a detachable magazine and has:
(i) a folding or telescoping stock,
(ii) a threaded barrel,
(iii) a pistol grip (which includes ANYTHING that can serve as a grip, see
(iv) a forward grip; or a barrel shroud.

Any semiautomatic rifle with a fixed magazine that can accept more than
10 rounds (except tubular magazine .22 rim fire rifles).

A semiautomatic pistol that has the ability to accept a
detachable magazine, and has:
(i) a second pistol grip,
(ii) a threaded barrel,
(iii) a barrel shroud or
(iv) can accept a detachable magazine outside of the pistol grip, and
(v) a semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10

A semiautomatic shotgun with:
(i) a folding or telescoping stock,
(ii) a pistol grip (see definition below),
(iii) the ability to accept a detachable magazine or a fixed magazine capacity
of more than 5 rounds, and
(iv) a shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

Frames or receivers for the above are included, along with conversion kits.

Attorney General gets carte blanche to ban guns at will: Under the proposal, the U.S. Attorney General can add any "semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General."

Note that Obama's pick for this office, Eric Holder, wrote a brief in the Heller case supporting the position that you have no right to have a working firearm in your own home. In making this determination, the bill says, "there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and a shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event." In plain English this means that ANY firearm ever obtained by federal officers or the military is not suitable for the public.

The last part is particularly clever, stating that a firearm doesn't have a sporting purpose just because it can be used for sporting purpose -- is that devious or what? And of course, "sporting purpose" is a rights infringement with no constitutional or historical support whatsoever, invented by domestic enemies of the right to keep and bear arms to further their cause of disarming the innocent.

Gun Owners of America | Those of you who regularly peruse the GOA website know that there are dozens of anti-gun abominations which are introduced as legislation in the Senate and House each Congress. These include, particularly, national gun licensing and broad gun bans.

GOA provides a summary of these bills for the benefit of our members and friends. But we do not focus on most of these bills because they are so extreme that they have no chance of passage. They are cynically introduced so that the Brady Campaign can raise money by threatening anti-gun measures it could never pass.

But the first anti-gun bill of the 111th Congress -– Chicago Congressman Bobby Rush’s H.R. 45 –- has caught the attention of many in the Second Amendment community as something we need to be worried about.

This is because of the extremity of the bill:

* H.R. 45 would require a federal license for all handguns and semiautomatics, including those you currently possess; and

* It would require handgun and semi-auto owners to be thumbprinted at the police station and to sign a certificate that, effectively, the firearm will not be kept in a place where it would be available for the defense of the gun owner’s family.

Pretty scary, huh? But, while this despotic nuttiness makes you wonder why a congressman from the Murder Capital of the Midwest would think that it would help to make the residents of New Hampshire, Alaska, and Wyoming comply with his blood-soaked city’s anti-gun laws, there have been other bills which are just as unconstitutional.

Rather, what makes H.R. 45 troubling is its sponsor and its timing.

Its sponsor is Congressman Bobby Rush –- a scion of the same super-corrupt Chicago political machine that produced disgraced Governor Rod Blagojevich and President Barack Obama.

And as for its timing, it was introduced during the confirmation of Attorney General nominee Eric Holder — the man who tried exploit the Columbine tragedy in order to pass gun licensing as Deputy Attorney General in the Clinton administration.

And make no mistake about it: Licensing is only a way-station to discouraging, arresting, or humiliating gun owners and outlawing guns. Under H.R. 45, for example, the applicant must also make available ALL of his psychiatric records, pass an exam, and pay a fee.

So… are you a veteran who has ever consulted a psychologist or psychiatrist? Guess what? The FBI would soon be examining every confidential statement you have ever made during those consultations.

Private sales of handguns and semi-autos would be outlawed, and reports to the attorney general of all transactions would be required, even when — as the bill allows — the AG determines that a state licensing system is sufficiently draconian to substitute for the federal license.

But, you may be thinking, “I’m just a hunter with a deer rifle… surely, none of this is relevant to me”?

Then you should know that, with virtually no exceptions, ALL firearms transactions (including person-to-person private sales of long guns, hunting rifles, shotguns, etc.) would be subject to the same paperwork hassles that are required when buying from a dealer.

In addition, the bill would make it unlawful in virtually all cases to keep any loaded firearm for self-defense. A variety of “crimes by omission” (such as failure to report certain things to the government) would be created.

Criminal penalties of up to ten years and virtually unlimited regulatory and inspection authority would be established.

Combined with the Ammunition Accountability effort to outlaw ammunition in numerous states, this two-pronged attack would soon make gun ownership a thing of the past.

Barack Obama was fond of saying during the campaign that he supported the Second Amendment. And we read of gun buyers who are flocking -– while it is still legal -– to purchase firearms, but who concede that they believed Obama’s assurances and voted for him.

But we may soon see a more horrific, nastier side of Barack Obama… and a capacity to go after his political enemies. And we have to assume that he will view gun owners as just about the most important of those enemies.
