WASHINGTON - A U.S. aircraft carrier sailed through the Strait of Hormuz and into the Gulf without incident on Sunday, a day after Iran backed away from an earlier threat to take action if an American carrier returned to the strategic waterway.

The carrier USS Abraham Lincoln completed a "regular and routine" passage through the strait, a critical gateway for the region's oil exports, "as previously scheduled and without incident," said Lieutenant Rebecca Rebarich, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Fifth Fleet.

saving the best of the old ones for last. she was commissioned in oct 1963, just a little strange panetta spoke in front of the 1700 sailers, hope that was incorrect her normal crew is about 5000 sailers. hope nothin happens to her, as she is my favorite carrier of all time cvan 65. she has had a good history unlike the new ones making bad history. but i would not put it past the establishment for using this old elephant out to pasture or for lack of better phrase a new pearl harbor event sacrificial lamb. this just has to stop.

Jose is correct, I served on the Eisenhower and we had over 5000 aboard ship which is a standard size crew for a fully operational carrier.  I'm interested in knowing what other support ships were send along with the Enterprise and what news agency reported the Enterprise is heading for the gulf?  This could be considered strange unless there using this ship for mock drills and such.

I/WE chased the Enterprise all over, the from the Gulf of Thailand to the the gulf of Tonkin or Tonkin Gulf as it was called back then '66-'67-'68.  Sorry to see her go this way.  You know this may be "we" are giving/delivering her to one of the new "democracies" they just aquired.wink-wink I mean freed...or the puprose is for their New for humanity war on Iran.  cause we who have been there know "They" aren't about to destroy something as new as the Lincoln, Eisenhour, or the others..hey don't they have a USS BUSH H.W. wasn't it  That would add to the patriotism behind this new war too would it not.
